The same report gives a February 2026 average daily population of 225 at the Main Jail and an 11-month display-period average of 231. Main Jail carries most of the Santa Cruz County jail population. Section 15 of the research shows all Sheriff's detention facilities at 321 ADP in February 2026, so the Main Jail accounted for about seven in ten people held in the four-facility system that month. The correct public lookup for Santa Cruz County Main Jail is the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Web Jail Viewer. The viewer opens with a warning screen, then sends users to the booking search form. Main Jail Visits

Santa Cruz County Main Jail visits are scheduled by phone. Visitors must be on the incarcerated person's approved visitor list, and the incarcerated person starts that process by submitting visitor information. The visitor PDF says background checks can take up to five days. A person who has been in custody within the last 60 days, has a warrant, is on parole or formal probation, or is barred by a restraining order may not be approved.

Visitors must arrive and register 30 minutes before the scheduled visit. Adults need valid photo ID. Minors must come with a parent or legal guardian, and a birth certificate or guardianship proof is required. Close-toed shoes and appropriate clothing are required, and no food, tobacco, alcohol, or personal property may be brought into the jail.

Main Jail Mail Money

Routine Santa Cruz County jail mail does not go straight to Water Street. The Sheriff's page uses a Smart Communications scanning address in Seminole, Florida. Regular postcards, letters, greeting cards, and similar mail are scanned into the kiosk or tablet system. Originals are destroyed, and copies or photos are destroyed after scanning timeframes. Do not send original birth certificates, marriage records, Social Security cards, or other irreplaceable papers.

Books, magazines, and newspapers must come directly from the publisher or an approved vendor such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Used books, hardbound books, soft leather covers, worn items, stained items, and damaged items are denied. No more than five books may be mailed at one time.

Main Jail Local Details

Property release at Santa Cruz County Main Jail is narrow. The Sheriff's page says a signed Property Release Form is required, and approved releases are handled Monday-Friday, 8:00-10:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. The jail will not release broad excess property automatically. Requests are reviewed case by case and are usually tied to specific items, such as vehicle keys.
