Rountree Inmate Overview

Rountree Medium Security Facility is operated by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Corrections Bureau. It sits in South County near Watsonville and is part of the Sheriff's four-facility local jail system. The Sheriff's Corrections Bureau page says the Bureau operates the Main Jail and Blaine Street in Santa Cruz and the Rountree Medium Security and Rehabilitation and Reentry facilities in South County.

Rountree Medium Security Facility houses county inmates who do not require Main Jail's maximum segregation but still need locked incarceration or separation from other prisoners. Research describes it as primarily a male medium-security county jail facility for both sentenced and pretrial people transferred after Main Jail classification. That transfer path matters. A person may book at the Main Jail, appear in the county Web Jail Viewer, and then move to Rountree after the jail completes intake and housing review.

Rountree is not a state prison. It does not use the CDCR locator for ordinary county jail custody, and it does not publish a separate Rountree roster. The public record path remains the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Web Jail Viewer, followed by phone confirmation for housing and visits.

Rountree Jail Population

The Sheriff's February 2026 monthly statistics list Rountree Medium Security Facility with a rated capacity of 96. The same report shows a February 2026 average daily population of 52, an 11-month display-period average of 57, and a rated-capacity percentage of 54 percent. Among the non-Main-Jail facilities, Rountree held the largest share of the population in many months shown in the research.

Rountree's displayed monthly ADP range was wide. The research notes a low of 32 in March 2025 and a high of 67 in September 2025. The source does not say why the count changed, so the better public explanation is classification and transfer context, not speculation. Medium-security beds can be affected by gender, custody level, medical status, separation needs, program space, staffing, and court movement.

Rountree Inmate Lookup

Use the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office Web Jail Viewer to search Rountree Medium Security Facility inmates. The portal allows searches by last name, first name, booking-from date, booking-to date, or a combination. The Web Jail Viewer permits the percent sign wildcard, which helps when a name may be misspelled, hyphenated, shortened, or entered with a different spacing pattern.

  1. Open the Web Jail Viewer and continue through the warning screen to the booking search.
  2. Search by name or booking date range. Use a wildcard if spelling is uncertain.
  3. Check result columns for booking number, name, DOB, race, sex, booking date, release date, and scheduled release date.
  4. Open the View link and review custody status, S-number, charge block, court data, and bail fields.
  5. Call Rountree reception to confirm current housing or visit scheduling before traveling.

If the county viewer does not find someone, use the fallback chain. For a new arrest, allow time for booking. For a sentenced state-prison transfer, search CDCR CIRIS. For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator. For immigration detention, use ICE ODLS. VINELink may help with victim notification, but it is not the same as a housing roster.

Rountree Contact

Rountree and Rehabilitation and Reentry share the South County Rountree contact path in the research. Use the Rountree number for visit scheduling and housing confirmation. The Sheriff's headquarters, public records request page, and NextRequest portal remain the public-records route for agency records that are not visible through the Web Jail Viewer.

Rountree Visit Schedule

Rountree visits are one-hour non-contact visits. Visitors must be on the incarcerated person's approved list, and the incarcerated person submits the visitor clearance information. Visitor lists can be updated once every 30 days. Background checks can take up to five days, and people with recent custody history, parole or formal probation status, warrants, or barred contact may be denied.

Scheduling is by phone Monday through Thursday. The research says no same-day scheduling. Visitors must arrive and register 30 minutes before the visit. Adults need valid photo ID. Minors must be with a parent or legal guardian and require birth certificate or guardianship proof. Passport or school ID is not a substitute for a minor's birth certificate under the visitor instructions.

Rountree Mail Money

Rountree uses the jailwide Santa Cruz County routine mail system. Regular personal mail goes to the Smart Communications scanning address in Florida, where it is scanned into the kiosk or tablet system. Legal mail goes directly to the facility. The research gives the legal mail destination for Rountree Facilities as 90 Rountree Lane, Watsonville, CA 95076.

Reception staff cannot accept deposits. Money orders are still allowed by mail when payable to the incarcerated person and include the S-number. Routine originals are destroyed after scanning, so family members should send copies, not original identity, marriage, birth, or Social Security documents.

Rountree Transfer Path

Rountree is a housing and custody facility, not the first public booking counter for most Santa Cruz County arrests. The Main Jail is the central booking and jail reception facility. After booking, jail staff can classify and transfer a person to Rountree if the custody level and housing needs fit. That is why a Web Jail Viewer result may start with booking details but still require a Rountree phone call for housing and visit timing.

A Rountree inmate record can include the same public fields available through the county viewer: booking number, S-number, custody badge, booking date, scheduled release, release date, charge information, arrest agency, court case number, next court date, and bail fields. If a court hearing moves the person to a court holding area for the day, that temporary court movement does not make the court holding area a public roster facility.

Rountree Local Details

Rountree's Watsonville location matters for families. It is separate from the Main Jail and Blaine Street in Santa Cruz city, so a trip from Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, or the San Lorenzo Valley is different from a trip to Water Street. Current route, parking, and entry instructions should be confirmed before leaving because the Sheriff's source material did not provide a detailed public driving route for Rountree.

The Sheriff's Corrections Bureau page says facility commanders oversee daily operations, including staff, transports, medical care, programs, family and professional visits, and coordination with county agencies and outside contractors. Penal Code 6030 and BSCC standards provide the state jail-standards context for local detention facilities, but the page should not claim accreditation or conditions findings beyond what the official reports state.

Note: Confirm Rountree housing, unit, and visit time by phone because the jail viewer is a booking search, not a live schedule.
